Lisa Gilbert, M.D.

Family Medicine Subsection Chair

From my earliest years, I recognized the importance of upholding the dignity of every human being,Ā from conception onward. This ethic has driven my decision to go into family medicine, where I have hadĀ the privilege of protecting the health and well-being of people of all backgrounds, ages, and ability. We pride ourselves in caring for all patients ā€œfrom womb to tomb.ā€ AndĀ while I continue to be proud of the work that so many of us do in Family Medicine, I have been alarmed by the shiftĀ of my medical group, the American Academy of Family Physicians, as well as the medical landscapeĀ overall, on key issues affecting our patients. This includes shifting from opposition to neutrality (or even outright advocacy for) abortion and assisted suicide. ToĀ me, it suddenly seemed like upholding the dignity of our patients was now considered optional. Thatā€™s when I decided toĀ dive into pro-live work with AAPLOG and support a consistent life ethic for all patients.Ā

"The main thing for our subsection is how we can assist family physicians in practice, whether thatā€™s private practice or academics, rural or urban. We really want to be a key resource and support for all prolife family physicians.ā€

The Vision of the Family Medicine Subsection

We want to see all pro-life family physicians able to thrive in their practice and do life-affirming work.
