May 23, 2013 Dear ProLife Colleague, There are 2 approaches to ending abortion: 1. All or nothing. 2. Incremental (get what you can). Both have honest advocates. If you are an “all or none” person, so far in 40 years, you have gotten “none.” If you are an incrementalist, there continue to be victories along the way. AAPLOG includes both strategies in our approach. We’d like #1, we’ll work with #2. (Doing nothing at all is a bad option) Here is a current initiative in category #2: Today the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice, Chaired by Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ) held a hearing on H.R. 1797. Below are links to the witness testimony as well as links to videos from the hearing. Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ) has announced he will amend his bill, the “D.C. Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act” (H.R. 1797) to apply nationwide. With this change, the “Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act” will be a national prohibition on aborting pain capable unborn children after twenty weeks gestation (post-fertilization age). This change is timely in light of the conviction of abortionist Kermit Gosnell and news reports of potentially similar gruesome late abortion providers around the country. Groups may wish to urge Members who have not yet cosponsored H.R. 1797 to do so.
