AAPLOG Featured in the Media After Response to Tragic Deaths of Georgia Women

AAPLOG’s responses to the misinformation about the tragic deaths of two Georgia women from abortion drugs have gained a lot of traction in the news media and on social media.

These responses included:

  • Two Twitter threads analyzing these women’s stories and the factors that might have played a role in their deaths
  • An open letter to ACOG urging them to join us in correcting dangerous misinformation about abortion laws and abortion drugs that is actively endangering our patients (of note, ACOG has yet to respond).

These responses have collectively received tens of thousands of engagements, including likes, shares, and comments, on our social media platforms – highlighting how important it is that we ensure the public is receiving accurate information about women’s healthcare. Dr. Francis’s video responding to VP Harris’s speech has nearly 30,000 likes on Instagram.

We also briefly covered the Georgia Department of Community Health’s response to the misinformation circulating about the state’s abortion law. If you are a Georgia member and would like to thank your governor Brian Kemper for offering these clarifications, feel free to do so on social media with the hashtag #StopGAMisinformation; that way we can amplify your post.

Our social media responses caught the attention of several news outlets, leading Dr. Francis and Dr. Bane to be featured in several national media articles and segments, including (but not limited to) the following:

These social and news media hits have allowed AAPLOG physicians to influence the public discourse. They have also allowed us to gain momentum in multiple ways, including by gaining 78 new members in September!

The past two weeks have highlighted the importance of member advocacy. If you are interested in speaking out on social media or in your local or state newspaper about abortion laws or other issues related to life-affirming medicine, please reach out to info@aaplog.org so we can support your efforts.
