AAPLOG Leaders Meet With Congressional, Presidential Administration Lawmakers and StaffĀ

Last week, AAPLOG members and leaders met with several federal lawmakers and their staff to discuss ways that AAPLOG and AAPLOG Action can be a resource to them as they seek to enact policies that serve the interests of our pregnant and preborn patients.

This included two meetings at the White House with presidential administration officials as well as several meetings with legislators’ offices. The legislators included U.S. Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO); U.S. House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN-06); U.S. Representative Julia Letlow (R-LA-05), the Vice Chair for the Appropriations Labor HHS Subcommittee; US. Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX-06), and several more. We covered topics such as the newly-published reports on the dangers of mifepristone, the work of pregnancy resource centers, and the importance of conscience protections for medical trainees.  If you would be interested in joining us for future educational visits on the Hill or in connecting with legislators in your state, please reach out to Rebecca Weaver at director@aaplogaction.org.  Medical voices are crucial in the fight to ensure that policy makers have accurate information so they can act on behalf of both our maternal and fetal patients.

In addition to meeting with policymakers’ offices, our members were able to meet with medical professional colleagues in the area as well as fellow pro-life organizations.

On April 29, AAPLOG leaders attended Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America’s annual gala, at which U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson was the keynote speaker. Four U.S. Senators also spoke at this event. The speakers commended attendees on how far the pro-life movement has come and discussed the work we have yet to do, including defunding Planned Parenthood and encouraging the practice of life-affirming care for mothers and babies in our country.

We are grateful to be able to advocate for our pregnant and preborn patients in the policy sector and honored to be able to establish dialogue with lawmakers at the federal level.
