Student & Resident Scholarship Applications for MBEC 2026 NOW OPEN!

Medical students and residents who would like to attend the 2026 Matthew Bulfin Educational Conference are encouraged to apply today for the Joseph DeCook (JDC) Scholarship. This full scholarship pays for transportation (up to $500), hotel, and conference costs for medical students and residents who desire to practice life-affirming medicine.

Medical students and residents from all backgrounds have greatly benefited from attending MBEC as a Joe DeCook scholar, as they shared with us at last year’s conference.

“I was drawn to attend MBEC because I feel like, as a lot of Christian medical students do, I felt scared of OB-GYN to begin with,” recalled one fourth-year medical student. “I was really interested in the field but because of the surrounding religious and political issues it made me nervous to pursue it. But after doing a rotation in my third year, talking to other students… it made me want to be more involved in the pro-life movement.”

The fellowship, mentorship, and support that students have found at MBEC has been life-changing.

“’Connection’ is too superficial of a word” to describe her experience, said another 2025 Scholar. “It’s really relationships that have been formed” with peers, mentors, and more.

“It’s invigorating to know who is going before us, who is carrying the torch. Inasmuch as they are going before us, they’re also behind us as students in teaching us what we are capable of doing,” she added.

If you are no longer a student or resident, you can support the next generation of pro-life medical professionals by donating to the Joe DeCook scholarship fund. These scholarships are generously funded by AAPLOG members and donors and make a tangible impact on the future of life-affirming medicine – both here in the US and around the globe.  We had 78 scholars attend our 2025 conference and we are aiming for 100 in 2026!  If you want to ensure we reach our goal, please give to support these scholarships.

  • One full scholarship (includes travel, lodging, food, & conference registration) –   $2,500.00
  • Partial scholarship
    • $1000 – covers registration
    • $750 – covers lodging
    • $500 – covers travel
    • $250 – covers food

Your generosity will earn you the undying gratitude of medical professionals who are just starting their career, as evidenced by the 2025 cohort of scholarship recipient’s thoughts on the support donors like you offered them.

“It’s really a gift to be here,” said one third-year medical student.

A fourth-year medical student pointed out, “conferences can be so expensive for medical students to begin with, and especially with something like this that is considered controversial, it’s harder to go through those channels where they might help students to travel for things like this otherwise.”

“It makes a really big difference to know that there are doctors and others out there who think the same way as us,” she added. “And it’s encouraging for students hoping to feel comfortable going into these fields to know that they’re being supported.”

Medical students and residents can also consider signing up for the Honeycutt Poster Presentation Contest if they are interested in showcasing their own research. The Honeycutt Award is bestowed on the most outstanding poster presentation by pre-professional or professional students, nurses or advanced practice nurses, midwives or medical residents of any specialty. The poster presentation will be judged by a scientific panel of AAPLOG leadership.  The winner will be presented with the Honeycutt Award ($500) on Saturday morning of the conference, during the plenary session.
