Nearly a year and a half after President Donald Trump was sworn in, the pro-life movement is still fighting the rise of mail-order abortion pills and now finds itself pressing the Trump administration to act.
What initially appeared to be administrative passivity has begun to resemble active interference with efforts to reinstate basic safeguards for abortion pills. Today, these drugs can be ordered online without identification, pregnancy verification, or an in-person physician visit, and delivered directly to a doorstep in less than a week.

Last month, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) moved to dismiss lawsuits brought by Florida and Texas against the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), effectively defending the agency’s reckless abortion pill policies or lack thereof.
Pro-life policymakers responded swiftly. Dr. Christina Francis spoke at Sen. Josh Hawley’s press conference announcing new legislation to remove the FDA approval of mifepristone for induced abortion as well as to give women harmed by mifepristone a pathway to justice. Soon after, Sen. Hawley launched an investigation into abortion pill manufacturers. Shortly after that, several senators joined a similar effort led by Sen. Bill Cassidy. AAPLOG’s undercover video is cited as a key resource in Dr. Cassidy’s letters to Danco, GenBioPro, and Evita.
The fact that the pro-life movement must push the Trump administration to act is disappointing, but not surprising. Even before the 2024 election, a TIME Magazine interview for 2024 Person of the Year made clear his position on abortion pills, warning that a Trump presidency would likely pose an uphill battle on this issue.
When asked directly about limiting abortion pill access through the FDA, Trump dismissed the prospect as “unlikely, very unlikely.”
AAPLOG will not retreat from exposing what it considers the medical travesty of unregulated abortion pills. The organization remains committed to advocating for women and their preborn children by supporting legislation that holds the FDA accountable, exposing the abortion pill industry, and educating Americans about the real and often overlooked dangers these drugs pose.
AAPLOG has a new way that you can help bring awareness to the harms of abortion drugs. We are collecting stories from our members of complications of abortion drugs that you have treated. It is imperative that this administration hears about the real-world impact of their reckless inaction. We have made it easy for you to report these complications in a HIPAA-compliant manner on our members-only site. The form will take only a couple minutes to fill out. If you have cared for women suffering complications of abortion drugs, we encourage you to let us know here.
