Family Medicine Subsection

Lisa Gilbert, M.D.
The FM Subsection is no longer active as of April 2025. Please read a special update from former FM Subsection Chair Dr. Lisa Gilbert.
Dear FM colleagues,
It is with joy that I want to announce that AAPLOG’s Family Medicine Subsection is closing because we have a new prolife Family Medicine organization! The American College of Family Medicine (https://theacfm.org/
The mission of the ACFM is “to preserve and defend the principles and practice of Hippocratic Family Medicine. These principles include protecting the vulnerable at the beginning and end of life, seeking the ultimate good for the patient with compassion and moral integrity, and providing healthcare with the highest standards of excellence based on medical science.” This new organization will not attempt to reproduce all the work of the AAFP, but to provide a prolife influence from a family medicine perspective, support students and residents, and leverage our position on many important national and local issues, including abortion, assisted suicide, transgender interventions, and other violations of medical practice.
We strongly encourage you to join the ACFM! We also encourage you to remain within AAPLOG given the tremendous work that AAPLOG continues to do to support prolife medicine, including family medicine! AAPLOG continues to be a great leader and provide the stability, infrastructure and national influence for prolife work.
Because we see the value in both organizations, we have created a discount for dual paid membership.
-$250 for AAPLOG membership – a new level for practicing FMs who are members of both organizations. (If you are currently paid for both, you will be moved to this new level. If you wish to renew or join in 2025 at this special rate, please login the website, change your membership level, and pay online. You can also call 202-230-0997 for assistance.) There is no annual renewal date set at this point.
-$100 for ACFM – AAPLOG members who wish to join ACFM, sign up here, Membership Signup – American College of Family Medicine and then change your AAPLOG membership level to the new FM level (if paid for both). You can call or email AAPLOG for assistance.
I have been honored to serve as the Family Medicine subsection chair! Please feel free to reach out with any questions!
For Life,
Lisa Gilbert, MD, MA (Ethics)
