FDA Explores Oocyte Modification in Assisted Reproduction

Dear Colleagues, Since embryonic human beings have now achieved the scientific status of commodities to be designed, used or disposed of as the owners or reseachers desire, this article from the UK about the three genetic parent embryo should not surprise us http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-24158049 In that article is a diagram of the process. The process of pronuclear transfer (PNT) destroys two human embryos and is a form of reproductive embryo cloning: cloning from one embryo, using a second donor embryo, to create a third embryo who will be a clone (i.e. a partial copy) of the first. As gruesome as it sounds to destroy two human beings in order to make a third out of the transplanted parts, this idea is actually being explored by our own FDA, who has an advisory committee meeting on this topic. http://www.fda.gov/AdvisoryCommittees/Calendar/ucm361972.htm?source=govdelivery. The FDA will take comments until October 15. Feel free to submit your comments. AAPLOG will be submitting comments in defense of the life of the embryos destroyed in this process. On the other side of this darkness is the light of human self-giving love. http://www.mercatornet.com/articles/view/her_perfect_boy It is an interesting contrast between the all-consuming lust for the perfect offspring vs. the all-consuming love for the imperfect offspring. Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the AAPLOG Matt Bulfin Educational Meeting Saturday Feb 22 in Washington D.C. You should be getting an invitation from EVENTBRITE soon for this event. We are doing online registration this year. Hope to see you there! For Life, Donna
