AAPLOG Applauds Trump’s Proposed Protect Life Rule

WASHINGTON – The American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists (AAPLOG), representing more than 4,000 members and associates, issued the following statement in reaction to President Trump’s proposed Protect Life Rule, which will defund abortion providers like Planned Parenthood of Title X taxpayer dollars. Trump is expected to announce the rule on Friday.

“The American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists (AAPLOG) applauds President Trump’s common sense clarification of the original purpose of Title X, which explicitly did not support pushing abortion as a method of family planning,” said Donna Harrison, M.D., Executive Director of AAPLOG. “Under previous administrations the intent of Title X was contorted and circumvented in order to allow Planned Parenthood to pay for everything up to the point of the actual abortion, including pressuring women to have abortions in their counseling. The Trump administration action corrects this horrendous perversion of the law and restores Title X funds to real health care facilities, instead of abortion mills. AAPLOG applauds this clarification.

“Planned Parenthood markets abortion to pregnant women, but it is Planned Parenthood, not the woman, who benefits. Planned Parenthood’s abortion numbers are especially high among minorities and women at or below the poverty level. Planned Parenthood’s insistence on pushing abortion on women should deem them ineligible for even a cent of taxpayer funding. Abortion is not health care. AAPLOG and its members and associates applaud President Trump for putting precious Title X funds towards real health care and providing real help to women.”

“Abortion hurts both born and unborn women,” said Christina Francis, M.D., Chairman of the AAPLOG Board of Directors. “Family planning at Planned Parenthood means access to abortion. Pro-life medical providers across the country offer life-affirming care that assists women without abortion. President Trump’s proposed Protect Life rule recognizes that women don’t need abortion. Title X dollars aren’t being cut, but simply redirected to abortion-free providers. We commend the Protect Life rule that will separate abortion from real health care.”

The American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists (AAPLOG) exists to encourage and equip its members and other concerned medical practitioners to provide an evidence-based rationale for defending the lives of both the pregnant mother and her unborn child. AAPLOG represents more than 4,000 members and associates.
