On Friday, April 12, March for Life hosted the first-ever Colorado State March for Life in front of the State Capitol in Denver. The March, co-sponsored by local coalition Pro-Life Colorado, saw nearly 4,000 pro-life advocates marching through downtown Denver. AAPLOG was in attendance as an exhibitor before the rally. We were also proud to see several medical professionals at this march. Additionally, two of our organization’s leaders – CEO Dr. Christina Francis and Board Member Dr. Catherine Wheeler – were featured as speakers at the rally before the march.
In their talks, Dr. Wheeler and Dr. Francis encouraged pro-life advocates never to back down from standing up for life. They also directly addressed medical professionals; Dr. Francis said,
To the medical professionals in the crowd, don’t let anyone tell you that you don’t belong in your career. You are doing exactly what you were meant to do, fighting for your patients, not only against illness and injury, but also to restore respect for their lives. You are Colorado’s last line of defense. The reason we’re here today is the same reason we spent years training and studying and the same reason we go to work every single day. We do all of this so we can defend every woman and every child.
-Dr. Francis
Other rally speakers included Bishop Jorge H. Rodríguez, Bishop James R. Golka of the Diocese of Colorado Springs, National March for Life president Jeanne Mancini, author and Ethics and Public Policy Center fellow Alexandra DeSanctis, and Colorado State Representative Brandi Bradley. In her remarks, Representative Bradley stated,
There’s no choice in Colorado anymore. This state has attacked a woman’s right to receive help from alternative pregnancy centers. This state has attacked and limited a woman from taking life-saving progesterone for her baby after the first chemical abortion pill. This state is not pro-choice, it’s pro-abortion only. The people of Colorado need to hear that.
-Rep. Bradley
It was encouraging to see a strong turnout of pro-life medical professionals even in a state known as one of the most pro-abortion in the country. However, AAPLOG and our members there are working hard to change that!
