Here’s What 2024 DeCook Scholars Had to Say About MBEC

Last month, we were proud to host 60 medical students and residents at our Matthew Bulfin Educational Conference (MBEC) through our Joe DeCook Scholarship Program. Here is what just some of this year’s DeCook scholars had to say about attending MBEC 2024:

“Thank you so much for an incredible weekend at MBEC.  I had such an amazing experience, learned so much and felt so supported to be in a room of medical professionals with similar goals and perspectives as myself.”

“I loved the conference. Thank you so much to all of you at AAPLOG for putting it together – It was probably the most informative couple of days that I have had in my medical education so far. I definitely hope to be there next year.”

“This weekend’s event provided an unparalleled platform for delving into the most important and pertinent topics in health and medicine. The opportunity to engage in discussions, network with professionals, and learn from esteemed speakers was invaluable. The conference not only broadened my knowledge but also inspired a renewed sense of passion for the work we do in the medical community. I am so appreciative of the effort put into curating such a remarkable lineup and for orchestrating the entire event.”

We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of those of you who contributed to funding the DeCook scholarships this year; we could not have hosted this many students without your help. Thanks to you, we were able to continue to support the next generation of pro-life medical professionals, which is crucial to ensure the endurance of life-affirming medicine in the decades to come.

We also provided some special benefits for the students and residents who attended, including:

  • A students-only Q&A session on pro-life apologetics with renowned apologist Scott Klusendorf and AAPLOG member Dr. Calum Miller of the UK;
  • A special reception with keynote speaker Dr. Kristin Collier and a debriefing session on the last day with AAPLOG leadership; and
  • The Honeycutt Poster Contest, through which students had the opportunity to display and present their original research. Congratulations to this year’s Honeycutt Award winner, Brian Girard, third-year medical student at the Liberty University School of Osteopathic Medicine, who presented his study titled “Development of Mouse Embryos in Nicotine-Containing and Nicotine-Free E-Cigarette Vapor Condensate Cultured for Four Days.”

Be sure to save the date for next year’s Matthew Bulfin Educational Conference, which will be held February 28 – March 2, 2025 (pre-conference on Feb 27th), in Orlando, Florida. Students and residents – stay tuned for further information regarding applying for the DeCook Scholarship and the Honeycutt Poster contest in the coming months.
