Saturday, June 24 marks one year since the U.S. Supreme Court issued the historic Dobbs v Jackson ruling, overturning the tragic Roe and Casey decisions and returning the discussion over induced abortion to the people’s elected officials. In response to this historic event, AAPLOG issued the following statement:
Last year’s Dobbs ruling by the Supreme Court began a revolution in women’s healthcare. The ruling has already saved thousands of our patients’ lives and allowed us to provide comprehensive care in the place of five-minute visits to refer for induced abortion.
Any major systemic change will bring some confusion. That’s why we’re inviting ACOG to follow our lead and equip its members for our shared reality as physicians – something we’ve started by publishing our new Glossary of Medical Terms, which empowers medical professionals to use precise, medically accurate language.Any major systemic change will require clear guidance. We are extremely proud to have had your support over the past year. As we forge onward, we hope that you will continue to stand with us as we fight for our patients and for you. We plan to continue to educate at the state, national, and international level, publish research, fight for the conscience rights of pro-life medical professionals like you, and educate the public as the nation’s primary pro-life medical professional voice. As we combat misinformation about legal abortion regulations, the harms of induced abortion, and more, we hope that you would feel empowered to freely offer life-affirming care to your patients and offer your perspective in the public sphere. For those interested in becoming more involved in public advocacy, whether in the media or courts, our free expert witness training sessions may prove to be an invaluable resource. More information about these can be found in the “AAPLOG Near You” section below. In addition, we recently hosted a webinar offering information on how to testify before one’s state legislature. You can see a recording of this event here.
