Surrender; Gosnell Trial

April 16, 2013 Dear ProLife Colleague: The TV real life video series “Surrender the Secret” finished last week with episode 10. See all episodes at: http://www.knocktv.com/surrenderthesecret/all-episodes/ This episode centered on comments by the film crew and directors/producers on how doing this series affected their own lives. Here are these experienced camera crew guys with tears running down their faces. 2 of the women involved in production surrendered their own secret abortions as the show progressed, and began on a path to healing and restoration of who they were meant to be. Episode 10 was very important to the whole story. We have pushed this series in our letters. Why? It gives a real life window into the lives of post-abortive women—a window we need to see through if we are to have any positive effect on the lives of their post-abortive sisters who many of us see every day. Personally, in 30 years of prolife obgyn practice and work, I have not gotten some of the insights I gained from watching this series—insghts into the devastation of the involved women’s emotions and their grief, and the effect on their relationships. I knew some of this stuff academically, but not in a visceral way. Sharing these women’s experiences opened my eyes quite a bit wider. I recommend this series to doctors, pregnancy care center workers, famlly members, and to any one who cares to have a better understanding of what 40% of reproductive age women-the postabortive women- in America, are experiencing. Abortion is forever. But, more importantly, so is forgiveness, so is restoration, so is freedom. Jdc The murder trial of abortionist Kermit Gosnell is proceeding in Philadelphia. We have rehearsed the sordid details of his abortion clinic in previous letters: https://www.aaplog.org/get-involved/letters-to-members/gosnell-trial/ Normally, the media is all over sensational trials like this. (How often have you heard reports of the lady who allegedly murdered her boy friend, stabbed him multiple times, shot him, and etc. Ad Nauseum.) Question: how many times have you heard anything about the Gosnell trial? Answer, as of this past Wednesday or so, according to someone who counted: If you listen to the 3 major networks’ News Hours, he says the answer is Zero. Cable News, the answer is Once. If you read the New York Times, same source said “Once,”—But if you read the Philadelphia Inquirer, over a hundred times. Is there a bias out there about what is or is not newsworthy?? Several congressmen are concerned that this trial deserves wide exposure. The following is from one of our sources: This afternoon (4-11) Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) led a Special Order on the floor of the House of Representatives to draw attention to abortionist Kermit Gosnell and the failure of the national media to cover his trial. As you likely know, Gosnell is being tried for eight counts of murder. One count is for the death of an adult woman who underwent an abortion at his clinic. The other seven counts are for the deaths of newborn babies who survived their abortion, but were then killed when Gosnell or his staff “snipped” their spines. In the words of the Grand Jury report: “Gosnell had a simple solution for unwanted babies: he killed them. He didn’t call it that. He called it ‘ensuring fetal demise.’ The way he ensured fetal demise was by sticking scissors in the back of the baby’s neck and cutting the spinal cord. He called that ‘snipping.’ Over the years there were hundreds of ‘snippings’.” The trial gives revealing insights into the abortion industry and specifically highlights the reality that abortion involves taking a human life. While Gosnell faces charges for his horrific actions on babies who survived abortions, similarly deadly actions are legally taken against the over 1.2 million unborn children who die in abortions every year in the United States.
