Norton regarding the Iowa Board of Medicineâs decision Friday to prohibit âwebcamâ abortions:â¨â¨âPlanned Parenthood and other abortionists should be accountable to basic health and medical standards. That at least includes a licensed professional personally meeting with women who are considering such a serious and potentially life-altering act. Thatâs why we commend the Iowa Board of Medicine for caring more about the health and safety of mothers than about the profits Planned Parenthood obtains through âwebcamâ abortions. Chemical abortions pose serious health risks to women, so their care should not be taken lightly. No matter where people stand on abortion, all should be able to agree on that.â Letter from Alliance Defending Freedom and American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists to Iowa Board of Medicine in support of ban on âwebcamâ abortions (2013-08-21) Resource page: Thayer v. The board voted 8-2 during a meeting Friday. The earliest the rules could go into effect would be Nov. 6. Activists opposed to abortion rights sought to halt a long-distance video system used by Planned Parenthood of the Heartland. It lets doctors deliver pills to patients in clinics around Iowa after a video consultation. Board members who voted for the rule said they were concerned because patients don’t see a doctor in person and may not get follow-up care. But Planned Parenthood of the Heartland officials say the system helps women in remote areas and that they have received no complaints.
