Pro-Life Medical Conference Hosts 13 Orthodox Jewish Students on Full Scholarship

We are excited to offer this opportunity to the next generation of pro-life medical professionals in the Jewish community,” says Dr. Donna Harrison, CEO of conference co-host organization.

(TUCSON, AZ) February 10, 2023 – The Matthew Bulfin Educational Conference, co-hosted by the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists (AAPLOG) and the American College of Pediatricians (ACPeds) was delighted to host 17 Orthodox Jewish physicians, residents, medical students and some undergraduate students in conjunction with the Health Care Council of the Coalition for Jewish Values (CJV). The Coalition for Jewish Values is an organization of the Orthodox Jewish community which is dedicated to promoting traditional Jewish values. To make it possible for these dedicated medical professionals to attend the AAPLOG conference, CJV organized the first ever Shabbos dovetailing with the conference which allowed for the Orthodox Jewish medical professionals to attend and also keep Shabbos. With the help of CJV Managing Director Rabbi Yaakov Menken, MBEC organizers were able to accommodate the Orthodox students’ dietary and Shabbat needs.

The residents, medical students and undergraduate students were selected after application to the  Joe DeCook Scholarship program. This year, nearly 70 DeCook scholars’ MBEC attendance was fully supported, including travel, lodging, and meals, by this program. MBEC brings together pro-life physicians, medical researchers, legal experts, and more to offer evidence-based insights on life issues. At MBEC 2023, a total of 30 speakers offered plenary, breakout, and keynote presentations on topics ranging from maternal health in the Black community to the importance of engaging in the federal agency regulatory process.

“We are excited to offer this opportunity to the next generation of pro-life medical professionals in the Orthodox Jewish community,” says AAPLOG CEO Dr. Donna Harrison. “We look forward to working with CJV on future efforts.”
